Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone Biography

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone was born on August 16, 1958, in Bay City, Michigan, USA. Madonna was the third of eight children into a large Italian family. Her father, Sylvio Ciccone, was a design engineer for General Motors, and her mother was Madonna Ciccone. When Madonna was six years old, she lost her mother.

Madonna attended the University of Michigan on a dance scholarship for two years before heading to New York City to become a ballet dancer. In 1977, she went to New York, studying with noted choreographer Alvin Ailey and taking modeling jobs. Two years later, Madonna moved to France to join a show featuring disco singer Patrick Hernandez. There she met Dan Gilroy and, back in New York, the pair formed club band the Breakfast Club. Madonna played drums for that band, but she soon becomes a lead singer. In 1980, she left the band and formed Emmy with Detroit-born drummer and former boyfriend, Steve Bray.

Together, Madonna and Bray created club tracks and these tracks worked its way to Mark Kamins, a New York-based DJ/producer. Kamins directed the tape to Sire Records, who signed the singer during 1982. Madonna's first single, "Everybody," who became a club and dance hit. Since then she had given many hits. Madonna broke out from the disco scene into mainstream pop with "Holiday", written and produced by Jellybean which was her third club hit.

In 1983, "Madonna" her debut album is released. In 1984, Madonna's second album, the Niles Rodgers-produced "Like a Virgin", was released. The title track hit number one, staying at the top of the charts for six weeks. After that "Material Girl" became a number two hit in March, Madonna began her first tour, supported by the Beastie Boys. "Crazy for You" became her second number one single. "Desperately Seeking Susan" was also released in the same year, becoming a box-office hit. In August, she married actor Sean Penn; the couple had a rocky marriage that ended in 1989.

In 1989, "Like a Prayer" released, it was her most ambitious and far-reaching album, incorporating elements of pop, rock, and dance. It was another number one hit and launched the number-one title track, and "Express Yourself," "Cherish," and "Keep It Together," three more Top Ten hits.

In April 1990, she began her massive Blonde Ambition tour, which ran throughout the entire year. "Vogue" became a number one hit in May, setting the stage for her co-starring role in Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy, it was her most successful film appearance since Desperately Seeking Susan. Madonna released a greatest-hits album, "The Immaculate Collection", at the end of the year. It featured two new songs, including the number one single "Justify My Love," and the second one, "Rescue Me," became the highest-debuting single by a female artist in U.S. chart history, entering the charts at number 15.

During spring 1991, Truth or Dare, a documentary of the Blonde Ambition tour, was released to positive reviews and strong ticket sales.

1992: Madonna returned to the charts in the summer of 1992 with the number one "This Used to Be My Playground," a single featured in the film "A League of Their Own", which featured the singer in a small part. In 1995, Madonna began one of her most subtle image makeovers as she lobbied for the title role in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita. As the filming completed, Madonna announced she was pregnant and her daughter, Lourdes, was born late in 1996, just as Evita was scheduled for release.

The movie was greeted with generally positive reviews and Madonna began a campaign for an Oscar nomination that resulted in her winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy), but not the coveted Academy Award nomination.

In 1997, she worked with producer William Orbit on her first album of new material since 1994's Bedtime Stories. The resulting record, Ray of Light, was heavily influenced by electronica, techno, and trip-hop, thereby updating her classic dance-pop sound for the late '90s. Ray of Light received uniformly excellent reviews upon its March 1998 release and debuted at number two on the charts.

Two years later she returned with Music, which reunited her with Orbit and also featured production work from Mark "Spike" Stent and Mirwais, a French electro-pop producer/musician in the vein of Daft Punk and Air.

The year 2000 also saw the birth of Madonna's second child, Rocco, who she had with filmmaker Guy Richie. On 22 December, she married the UK film director Guy Ritchie in Scotland and managed once again to grab most of the newspaper headlines. In 2002 starred in the director's ill-fated remake of "Swept Away". The same year Madonna performed the theme song to the new James Bond movie, "Die Another Day".

Beyonce Knowles Biography:

Born in Houston in the fall of 1981, Beyonci Giselle Knowles started performing at age seven. From dance classes to singing in the church choir, Beyonci was a natural.

She and cousin Kelly Rowland met Latavia Roberson during this time, and the trio formed a group with Letoya Luckett. Mathew Knowles, Beyonci's father and Rowland's legal guardian, signed on to be the girls' manager. This situation would ultimately lead to the formation of one of the most popular female RB groups of all time -- Destiny's Child.

Destiny's Child made its debut 1990 and within ten years, the vocal act had experienced personal and political highs and lows that fueled the group's desire to make it big.

Destiny's Child sold 33 million albums worldwide by 2002 and earned a slew of Grammys and additional music awards. "Jumpin' Jumpin'," "Bills, Bills, Bills," "Say My Name," and "Survivor" were smash hits, and the group appeared unstoppable.

In 2001, Beyonci, Rowland, and Michelle Williams allowed themselves a break from the singing group and tried their hands at individual solo careers. Before landing several movie roles, Beyonci became the first African-American female artist and second woman ever to win the annual ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year Award. An appearance in the MTV drama Carmen: A Hip Hopera quickly followed, but it was her role as Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember in 2002 that eventually moved Beyonci from the stage to the screen.

Her first single, "Work It Out," coincided with the release of the Mike Myers comedy and cemented her celebrity status. A guest spot on Jay-Z's "'03 Bonnie Clyde" was equally popular when it appeared in October.

In 2003, she rejoined Jay-Z for her proper debut single, the funkadelic "Crazy in Love," as the press and fans christened her a bona fide star. Beyonci's debut album, Dangerously in Love, which appeared in June 2003, featured collaborations with Sean Paul, Missy Elliott, and OutKast's Big Boi.

The multi-platinum album spawned a total of four Top Ten singles. Nearly two years after another Destiny's Child album (Destiny Fulfilled), Beyonci released her second album, B'day.

Kelly Clarkson Biography

Kelly Clarkson was born on April 24, 1982 in Burleson, Texas to. Jeanne (teacher) and Steven Clarkson. They were divorced when she was six. Her stepfather is Jimmy Taylor (contractor). She has two older siblings, Jason and Alyssa.

Singing was not Kelly’s passion as a child. She loved science and wanted to eventually become a marine biologist (the story goes that she changed her mind after seeing the movie Jaws). Her start in music came while hanging out in school while she was in the seventh grade. A music teacher in her school (Pauline Hughes Middle School) overheard her singing in the hallway and was awestruck. He then persuaded her to join the school’s choir.

This gave her the push to not only perform in the choir, but in High School, she continued singing and also stared in the school’s (Burleson High School) rendition of Brigadoon. She even become a member of the Texas All-State Choir.

By the time she graduated High School in 2000, she became focused on having a career in music. She worked odd jobs to make money to help her pursue her dreams (such as working as a cocktail waitress and a clerk). She eventually recorded a demo CD, but did not receive any positive responses from the record labels.

She knew she had what it takes, and moved to Los Angeles to be where the action is – and closer to her eventual fame.

Her first professional job was not as a singer, but as an extra on the television series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. But she continued to find small jobs to pay the bills while working on her career and networking with people in the industry (like song writer Gerry Goffin (“Natural Woman”)).

In one great swoop, Gerry Gorrin got ill, her car was towed away and her apartment went up in flames. At this point, with her career going nowhere and no money in the bank, she took a step back and returned home to her family. It was back home that a friend told her about auditions for a hit reality show in the Texas area, and she applied for the hit show American Idol.

After getting herself together, she was on a mission to make it in show biz. She soon auditioned for American Idol, and after surviving more auditions, she went back to Hollywood and made it to the finalists on televisions. In September 2002, she was named the winner of American Idol.

She released a single, “A Moment Like This” (which she sung shortly after winning) soon after, and shot up to number one on the Billboard charts the following month. [Note: This was the greatest one-month gain for a single to go to number one]. Following all the excitement, she went on a thirty-city tour with 10 of the other finalists over the next six weeks.

Kelly would not let the momentum stop, and began filming her first movie in 2003, From Justin to Kelly (with Idol runner-up Justin Guarini). As soon as filming was complete (it only took six weeks), she went to the studio to record an album.

Her debut album, Thankful, was released in April 2003 and began on the Billboard Album chart at number one. The album was certified platinum within a few weeks.

The first single released was “Miss Independent” (co-written with Christina Aguilera) and quickly went to #1 on the charts. The video was nominated for three MTV Music Video Awards and a DVD by the same name was releases soon afterwards. Kelly Clarkson was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance – Female for this song.

All the other singles from the album also experienced extremely strong sales. To further promote the album, she went on an international tour starting out in the U.S. and then spanning out to various countries around the world. She even had time to lend her talents to the American Idol Christmas Special.

In 2004, she went out on tour again, this time with former American Idol winner Clay Aiken by her side. She called this the Independent Tour. Afterwards, she added her vocals to the soundtrack of The Princess Diaries 2 with a song called “Breakaway” (co-wrote by Avril Lavigne) The single of the song was another number one song for this young sensation.

In November 2004, her second album, Breakaway debuted on the Billboard charts at the third position.

In 2005, Kelly sung at Superbowl XXXIX (Tailgate Party) and also appeared on Saturday Night Live as a guest and musical performer. Then, this woman who never stops, is still going and finished up a thirty-five city tour around the country.

In February 2007, Clarkson partnered with NASCAR.

Kelly won the Best Female Video and the Best Pop Video awards at the 2005 MTV Music Video Awards in August.

She spent a great deal of 2006 & early 2007 touring.

In 2007, Kelly Clarkson released her third album My December, that became an instant success and was nominated for a Grammy Award

The winner of Fox TV's first American Idol: The Search for a Superstar competition during the summer of 2002, Kelly Clarkson went from an anonymous talent to a nationally known singer, performing for an audience of millions of viewers. One of the show's most naturally gifted singers, the 20-year-old Burleson, TX, native's vocal talents were discovered when she was in seventh grade, when her school's choir teacher heard her singing and urged Clarkson to join the choir. After high school, Clarkson cultivated her voice and went to Hollywood to make her name; she appeared as an extra on an episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch but no other opportunities materialized.

Upon returning to Burleson, Clarkson worked at a movie theater, promoted Red Bull energy drinks, and ultimately worked as a cocktail waitress at a comedy club before entering the American Idol contest. One of 10,000 aspiring singers, Clarkson distinguished herself not only with her big, surprisingly mature voice, but also with her down-to-earth charm and sense of humor; at one of her auditions, she switched places with judge Randy Jackson, who did an impromptu version of R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly." Over the course of the 13-week show, her consistently strong performances of songs like "Respect," "Natural Woman," "Stuff Like That There," and "Without You" earned Clarkson enough audience votes to claim one of the contest's two finalist positions. After singing "A Moment Like This" and "Before Your Love," both of which were written for the show, Clarkson won the American Idol contest with 58 percent of the audience's votes. In addition to the show's prize of one million dollars and a recording contract with RCA, Clarkson secured a deal with Creative Artists Agency and several bookings, including the national American Idol tour and a performance of the national anthem at the September 11 commemoration at Washington, D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial.
